The Future of SEEQS

Vision for Impact

In 2019, SEEQS partnered with Bloom Planning, an education-focused strategic planning firm, to explore growth possibilities while engaging our various school constituent groups. We developed the following Vision for Impact:

By June 2026, SEEQS is serving 500 to 600 middle and high school students at two sites in two communities on O‘ahu.

SEEQS students have powerful learning experiences facilitated by passionate educators that connect them to the place they live so that they can make meaningful change in their lives and for our planet.

SEEQS serves as a model for educators and citizens to observe Deeper Learning practices in action, and SEEQS includes sharing its practices as a key component of its mission.

A SEEQer’s Journey

The complete SEEQS journey is designed to begin in 6th grade and continue through 12th grade. Once the entire middle through high school scaffolded learning experience comes to fruition, SEEQS will graduate students who in their next endeavor, whether it be college or career, will be more successful in not only learning but in knowing how to learn.

During their years at SEEQS, students will have worked with professionals who impact Hawaii’s community. SEEQS graduates will have spent a year or more in internship roles, contributing to industry, innovation, and Hawaii’s political landscape. From their practical, community-based experiences at SEEQS, students will have a sense of vocation and community that motivates them to no longer just examine Essential Questions of Sustainability in a classroom setting, but to take responsibility for seeking solutions to help sustain Hawai‘i and our planet.

SEEQS Honolulu Middle School

Our Honolulu campus will continue to be at its current site at least through the 2022-2023 School Year serving students in 6th-8th grades. Continuity of place, as it relates to the stability of our students, teachers, and staff, as well as our connection with the surrounding community, is an incredible asset for our school. We are happy to have more time in our current “home”!

SEEQS Honolulu High School

Our educational model is intended to expand through high school for students to fully benefit from the complete SEEQS experience. While curricular plans are in place for grade-level expansion, we continue to look for a campus that can accommodate both middle and high school students. Once that facility is secured, we will begin adding grade levels one at a time.

SEEQS North Shore

Over the years, in discussions with various North Shore community members, we’ve been called to fill a gap where there is a desire for a middle school experience. We have explored the potential of opening a SEEQS campus on the North Shore of O’ahu, but are not actively pursuing it at this time. When/if we do decide we are ready to open a North Shore campus, we would begin with 7th grade, and then plan to add 8th grade the following school year.

SEEQS ‘Deeper Learning Hub’

SEEQS is happy to share what we do with fellow educators and community members. In the 2023-2024 School Year, we piloted more formal opportunities for fellow educators to visit our campus and learn from SEEQS students, educators, and leaders through the SEEQS Sharing Hub, which will continue to grow in future years!
